José Relvas School Cluster, Alpiarça Portugal
Our institution is operating in a socioeconomic area where agriculture prevails. Most of our pupils don’t have the possibility to contact with different realities like the European one. We have many pupils with special needs, such as Down syndrome, learning disabilities, language disorders, handicapped, migrants from several countries, and pupils in need of social support because they live in a disadvantaged area. In addition to that, the absence of family support leads them to a low self-esteem, which causes several problems when it comes to school affairs. In some cases, the family underestimates the role of school education because of their poor educational background.
In spite of this Alpiarça is a hospitable and calm place with nice natural surroundings and sightseeing places.
Agrupamento de Escolas de José Relvas is a public Cluster of Schools. The secondary school is the main school of the group from pre-primary to secondary education. The School cluster has about 900 students from pre-primary to 12th grade and 109 teachers.
Although the fact that all students can work on the main theme of this project and that they have access to the data given by the European cooperation, just a group of them will have the opportunity to directly communicate with the partners and to participate in the mobility activities.
This European cooperation project fulfil the specific goals of the School Cluster Educational Project
- To develop projects/initiatives that foster the European dimension of education,
- To promote active European citizenship.
- To keep and to expand partnerships and agreements with several institutions (...) concerning (...) international partnerships (...) with the main aim of improving education.
This project will allow all the pupils to get useful information and knowledge for their future by critical thinking, communication, creativity, responsibility for the changing world of work, developing the 21st century competences.
